  Early Years Foundation Stage

  The EYFS curriculum

  Children in our Early Years follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS).

  The EYFS Curriculum has seven main areas of learning -

  Prime Areas (these underpin all areas of learning)

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Physical Development

  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

  A high-quality Early Years education lays the foundations for children, with a focus on developing the whole child and to ensure 'school readiness'. Our EYFS environment provides children with a broad range of learning opportunities with the aim to embed firm foundations in the knowledge and skills needed for life.

  Here at Walliscote, we have a practical, playful approach to learning, based on the needs and interests of our children, which is delivered mainly through topic based planning. We teach children individually, in small groups and as a whole class. Through a combination of teacher led activities and continuous provision opportunities, we encourage children to develop their learning independently through exploration and challenge.

  The Characteristics of Effective Learning are at the heart of our Early Years Curriculum and explore the different ways in which our children learn. We understand and value the importance of playing and learning, active learning and thinking critically.

  Our learning environments, both inside and outside, are stimulating and exciting, and relevant to the needs and age/stage of our children. We ensure resources are easily accessible to support the development of children's independence and accessibility of the environment.
