Secondary School Applications 2021
Parent/Carer of Year 6 Pupil
Dear Parent/Carer,
Transfer to Secondary School in September 2021
We are writing to you as your child is due to transfer to secondary school in Year 7 in September 2021. The National Deadline date and time for the submission of applications is Saturday 31 October 2020 at 11:59pm. You will be able to apply for the school(s) you would like your child to attend next year from 12 September 2020. Please submit an application by the National Deadline for each child, including those with siblings already at the preferred school.
We would advise you to read the 2021-22 Parents’ Guide to Transferring to Secondary School, it is available at: http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/my-services/schools-learning/school-admissions/applying-school-place The guide details the oversubscription criteria for each school and lots of other useful information.
You can submit your application via the online application service which is available at: www.n-somerset.gov.uk/admissions. The online application service is secure, and you will receive an e-mail receipt once your application has been submitted. If you have previously registered on the online service, you can login using your e-mail address and password. Please ensure that all details listed under ‘My Account’ are up to date.
Alternatively, you can submit a paper application form. The application form is also available on our website: www.n-somerset.gov.uk/admissions or you may contact the School Admissions Team to post one out to you.
You are welcome to apply for any school(s) you wish your child to attend. You can name up to three preferences on your application form for schools within or outside of North Somerset. You are not guaranteed a place at any of your named preferences, so we recommend naming as many preferences as possible. Naming two or three schools on your application, will not in any way reduce the chance of being offered a place at the school placed as your highest preference. Priority is not given to those who only name one preference and all preferences are considered in accordance with an ‘equal preference system’. For more information, please read the Parent Guide referenced above.
Most secondary schools in North Somerset operate with First Geographical Areas. Whilst you may live within a First Geographical Area for a school, this does not guarantee you a place at this school, but it will give your child a priority over other children who do not live within the First Geographical Area. To find out which First Geographical Area your home address is in, please go to: www.n-somerset.gov.uk/secondaryschoolfga.
Please ensure you submit your application by the closing date and time of Saturday 31 October 2020 at 11:59pm. Any applications that are submitted late have less chance of being offered a place at their named preferences, as the school could be full. This includes children with a sibling attending one of your preference schools. If you don’t apply we cannot offer you a place. Applying on time gives you a higher chance of receiving a school of your choice. If you apply late, even if you have a sibling already at the school, you cannot be guaranteed a place at your preference school.
The outcome for on time applications will be available on the 1 March 2021. If you have applied online, on the 1 March you will receive an email with your place offer, and you will be able to log on to the online system to see your offer and respond. If you apply using a paper form by post or by emailing a Word version of the application form, you will be sent a letter on the 1 March 2021 by second class post with the outcome. Further details regarding this is available in the Parents’ Guide, along with the dates for the outcome of late applications.
The school’s open days and/or evening are listed below, please contact the school directly if you require further information. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact the School Admissions Team using the details at the top of this letter.
Yours sincerely
